PABLO PICASSO (spanish 1881-1973)
PABLO PICASSO (spanish 1881-1973) "LA GRANDE CORRIDA, AVEC FEMME TORERO" 1934, edition of 50, bears pencil signature in the margin; Vollard, publisher; Lacourière, printer. Etching. 19 1/2 x 27 1/8 in. (49.5 x 68.8cm) [Baer 433; Bloch 1330]. provenance: Sothebys, New York, Sale of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Prints/Old Master Prints, November 13-15, 1980, . Property of a Pennsylvania Corporate Collection. note: Very few signed examples of this print are known. ,000-30,000 -Sheet has two tape pieces top edge verso affixed to undermat, there are additional pieces of tape, primarily two long pieces, along top edge verso, not affixed to undermat. -Sheet has margins on all sides; some deckling to outer edges of sheet- very minor amounts of deckling to top, left, right edges and more deckling to bottom edge of sheet. While margins have some deckling and are not cut, the width of the margins is at some variance, with more variance in width of top and bottom margins. As a result, the sheet size is at same variance- 22 3/16 in. to 22 1/4 in. to 22 3/8 in. x 30 1/4 in. to 30 3/8 in. to 30 1/2 in. -Sheet has light staining, with areas of margins not covered by overmat- some of margins not covered by overmat are toned darker than outer margins, and some of the margins not covered by overmat appear whitish in color as compared to the margins covered by overmat. There is also some faint mat burn at outer edge of some of light staining. -Some generally minor but visible surface soiling/discoloration. There is a tiny area of foreign surface matter- likely removable in our opinion. Some small visible creases in parts of image and margins. Sheet has visible rippling- it does not lie completely flat, but has some undulations- the lower right edge of sheet curls upward slightly. -At upper center left, within image, we note two tiny surface splits to sheet one approximately 1/8 in. long, one approximately 1/16 in. long, in these areas, the top layer of the paper tears and has peeled away from rest of sheet. In these small areas, we do not see evidence of an actual complete tear or hole extending through the full sheet to the verso. -Sizes of margins -Left margin- 1 1/2 in. to 1 3/4 in. -Top margin- 1 7/16 in. to 1 3/4 in. -Right margin- 1 9/16 in. to 1 5/8 in. -Bottom margin- 1 1/16 in. to 1 1/4 in. -Verso of sheet with a pencil inscription: "A/879" and with some surface discoloration and some minor amounts of foreign matter, in lower part of sheet. -As previously noted, there are tape pieces along top edge verso that are not affixed to undermat- including two apparently newer pieces of white tape, two large pieces of tan colored papertape and a small amount of lighter colored papertape. -Near top part of sheet there is some generally minor surface soiling/discoloration. -There is some grayish-blackish surface discoloration near top edge of sheet verso. -There is a a thin, approximately 3/8 in. apparent thin piece of tape near one corner in upper portion of sheet verso, apparently removable, not visible in front of sheet.
