FRENCH 15TH CENTURY PAGE FROM PSALTER, FROM THE REIGN OF CHARLES VIII, THE AFFABLE, KING OF FRANCE 6" x 4 ½" image opening Ca. 1490. Probably Northeastern France or the Low Countries, this is an original page, or leaf, from a Psalter. Double-sided. Hand inscribed in black, red and blue inks on paper. Text in Latin. This psalter leaf follows the usual practice of dividing the Psalms according to the cycle in which they were recited at the matins and vespers over the course of the week, every week, in the medieval church.
Framed and matted under glass with historical note in second opening, overall in decorative mat and frame 13" x 11 ?". Provenance: old private collection, Pittsburgh, PA.
