'LEDA AND THE SWAN' BRONZE, AFTER WHEELER WILLIAMSWheeler Williams (after) (New York/Connecticut, 1897-1972) Leda and the Swan, originally modeled circa 1935 Bronze 11" x 21 1/2" x 5" A depiction of the Greek myth of Leda, mother of Helen, and Zeus, who takes the form of a swan. Brownish-black patina, later casting. Erroneously marked "P. MANSHIP / ROMAN BRONZE WORKS NY" to the left of the base. A colleague of Paul Manship, Wheeler Williams was an internationally celebrated artist in his own right, whose public works may be found in cities including Chicago and Philadephia.
Condition
Good condition, noting some mild oxidation.
