a) Printemps, featuring a scene from early spring, a sun burst to the right edge with newly bloomed foliage, Robins fly in groups, all against a white ground with a gilt scallopped rim, inscription on verso in blue underglaze, Spring, first edition in the series, edition strictly limited to 5,000, factory mark in green underglaze, serial number 50 incised in paste, all under base; diameter: 25 cm (9 7/8 in.)
b) Automne, featuring a scene from late fall, the yellow moon centered against a grey sky, quails rest in the green brush a single quail rests in a bare branch, leaves blow through the scene, all against a white ground with a gilt scallopped rim, inscription on verso in blue underglaze, Fall, in the series, edition strictly limited to 5,000, factory mark in green underglaze, serial number 77 incised in paste, all under base; diameter: 25 cm (9 7/8 in.)
CONDITION
The plates appear in very good original condition. Very minor rubbing to the gilt rim of each. Inspection under UV shows no apparent signs of restoration or repairs.

PIERRE VICTOR GALLAND (FRANCE, 1822-1892) Allegorical Figures of Levitating Women as the Four Seasons, oil on canvas, each signed lower left and dated 1867. The women are in color themed Classical robes, representing seasonal weather, the accompanying putti having associated articles for music, hunting, and the art of agriculture. The last, representing winter, depicts the mother bundling her small child against the cold, a dead sparrow below her feet. In narrow gold molded frames, OS: 75" x 26", SS: 73 1/2" x 24 1/2". Multiple punctures and tears, poorly repaired. Heavy craquelure to Spring. Need restoration and restretching.
Galland was a famous Belle Epoch theatrical scenic artist, working for the Paris Opera; he also designed and painted decorative murals for private and public spaces.
