Includes typed note reading "This picture was given to my grandmother, Annis Adaline McCarty when she was a girl by Robert E. Lee. She was born October 1, 1829, the year Robert E. Lee graduated from West Point with honors. She married September 15, 1855 to Louis Leander Poats, V. Wille May Hasson Speack". Both items housed in contemporary wooden frame. Massachusetts-Bay: Printed for I. Thomas, in Worcester; B. Edes, in Watertown; and S. & E. Hall, in Cambridge, [1775]. Duodecimo, printed wrappers, 18 (of 24) pp. Also sewn-in is a 42-page handwritten record of accounts for the years 1779-1782, by an unknown recorder. Although the Almanac is lacking several pages, it does contain: ''An Account of the Commencement of Hostilities between Great-Britain and America, in the province of Massachusetts-Bay, by the Rev. Mr. William Gordon, of Roxbury.,'' pp. [5-16]; ''A Short History which sheweth how the Charters of the city of London, with other parts of old England, and the British Colonies in New-England were taken away in the Reign of King Charles the IId.,;'' ''Sir Richard Rum's Advice to the soldiers and others;'' and the first page of ''Directions for preserving the Health of the Soldiers in the camps.'' Worn, dog-eared.

Southern School portrait and frame, young man wearing white cravat and black coat, set against a red-draped window, said to be John Alexander Lillington (North Carolina, 1725-1786), a Revolutionary War hero, but likely his son or grandson John Alexander Lillington by tradition, unsigned, oil on canvas, circa 1830, 26-1/4 x 22 in.; fine American 19th century gilt wood and composition frame with oak leaf, acorn and bead decoration, ivy leaf and vine panel, stylized anthemion cove and corners with geometric bosses. Original stretcher and tacking edge, tears, extensive flaking, stretcher marks, accretion, grime, bloom, canvas loose; frame with original finish. By descent in the Lillington family to consigner.

Stephens for vice president and delegates for each of Virginia's 16 districts.? Framed with vignette CDVs of the successful candidates 9.75 x 13 in. overall.Interestingly congressional candidate Roger A. Pryor has been scratched out.? Pryor (1828-1919) was one of the most outspoken proponents of secession before and during the war but with his personal status and financial prospects diminished following surrender he became a kind of reverse carpetbagger moving to New York joining the law practice of Union general Benjamin Butler and speaking in favor of reunification.? The Virginian who saved this ballot was obviously not pleased with him. Condition: Ballot in very good condition.? Stephens' CDV moderately stained.? Piece is professionally framed hence the items were not removed for examination.
