Twelve (12) dinner plates, in gilt and blue arabesque pattern over pink floral design. 8 1/2 in. (21.59 cm.) The Wallace Estate: Lee Renfrew Wallace and her husband Mahlon Brookings Wallace III lived an extremely happy and luxurious life filled with world travels, safaris, collecting, and philanthropy. From backgrounds in race-horse breeding and championship cattle ranching, the socialite couple paid homage to the St. Louis area community in a variety of ways. Mr. Wallace served as Director of Commerce Bank, President of the St. Louis Zoo Friends Board, and was charitable to numerous organizations he believed in. Behind every great man is a better woman, and his wife Lee was renowned for being the glue of the family while she warmly served as Director of Development for local educational institutions and made an impact with her lasting spirit. The couple’s art collection ranges in style and period and spans a broad price-point.

  Robert Lohman (American, 1919-2001), From the artist's personal collection: Lot of 4 pieces including a pair figural ceramic shelf sconces, 8 1/4"W, one with repaired shelf, both signed and dated '52; along with a pair glazed ceramic candleholders, both signed and dated '83, one repaired 'spike'. Lohman studied at John Herron Art Institute, and Cranbrook and Yale for graduate work. Assisted Carl Milles at Cranbrook Academy before becoming Director of Fine Arts there from 1947-49. Also taught at Washington U. in St. Louis, and the Indianapolis Art League for 10 years. Teachers include: Maija Grotell and Gaetano Cecere. Among his many accomplishments as an artist, he designed the medal for the Indy 500 Pacemaker Club, 1965, and the medal to represent the US at the Exposition Internationale de la Medaille in Athens, 1966.
