SCARCE LARGE MYSTERY DOLL HOUSE, CA.1890Scarce large Mystery doll house, ca.1890, with four front sections which open to reveal a two story house, with generous sized rooms and center staircase, features the familiar chamfered moldings associated with these models, carved wood scalloped shingle roof, and front garden plat, retains all original painted floors, this less common form with split gable roofs was purchased from the Lolita Armour El Mirador estate auction in Los Angeles 1976. The present owner started the restoration of this house by removing what was left of the stained and damaged wallpapers, all of which have been saved, along with the original curtains, and the interior moldings, paneled doors, and trims, includes various wood trims (both new and original) and period wallpapers, overall - 46" h., 56" w., 25 1/2" d.
Condition:
Worthy of restoration.

Provenance: Professor Julia R. Weertman Collection. Julia Randall Weertman (February 10, 1926 – July 31, 2018) was an American materials scientist who taught at Northwestern University as the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. Lolita Concho was born circa 1910 at Acoma Pueblo. She spent her life at the pueblo making pottery for collectors and museums. She was an outstanding potter and one of the few who could make large jars. She was commissioned to make large jars like the ones in R. C. Gorman's lithographs "Water Carrier" and "Acoma" in the early 1980's. The results were breathtaking. She was a prize-winning potter who found time to teach the techniques of pottery making to her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Torivio. Dimensions: 7 1/2"H x 9"Diam.
