INDENTURE, MAYOR OF LONDON & EARLS, DATED 1801A fascinating early 19th century hand written 20 page indenture on vellum dated February 20th 1801, signed, notarized and witnessed by various parties including Arnold Langley Esq., Thomas Hartley (Lord Mayor of London), Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer and Hugh Smith, in reference to the sum of £25,400 (today's equivalent of £535.000) in payment for property seemingly belonging to Arnold Langley, Herefordshire England. The covering page bearing all 4 parties signatures along with their respective red wax seals, all pages having 3 shilling blue tax stamps and George Rex paper stamp verso. Dimensions, 24" height x 27” wide.

Series: Heroic Leaders, issued 1990 in limited edition of 9,500. Size: 3.25"H (small) A British naval and military leader, Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten (1900 - 1979) was the last Viceroy of India. Mountbatten was Governor - General of the Dominion of India from 1947 to 1948, relinquishing power to native rule in 1948. Upon his retirement from the navy in 1959, he became the principal military adviser to the Ministry of Defense. He was killed when a bomb exploded his fishing boat off the coast of Ireland.

John Gilbert Getty (1968-2020) with Paul ShutlerNote: In 1870 Frederick Vyner (1847-1870) was kidnapped by bandits while travelling in Greece. A large ransom was demanded and, in part, collected before his eventual murder. In his honour his mother Lady Mary Vyner and his sister Lady Ripon used the unspent ransom to commission two churches and this book of common prayer from the architect William Burges whose design for this binding is now held in the collection of the RIBA.The two churches commissioned are The Church of St Mary, Studley Royal and The Church of Christ the Consoler, Skelton-on-Ure, where identical armorial shields are incorporated into the architecture of the external buttresses. A memorial tablet for Frederick Vyner is in York Minster.
