LORAN WILFORD, OIL ON BOARD PAINTING OF NUDE WOMANLoran Wilford (American, 1893-1972) oil on board impressionist style painting depicting a nude brunette young woman with red cloth draped over her legs, seated and leaning forward with her eyes cast away from the viewer, against a plain red-brown background. Signed "LF Wilford" lower right corner. Newer elaborately molded giltwood frame. Sight - 15 1/2" x 11 1/2". Frame - 27" x 23". Biography: Loran Wilford was a painter, illustrator and teacher. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and with Charles Wilimovsky and George Pearse Ennis. He began his career as an illustrator for the Kansas City Star in 1917. In 1923 he moved east to Stamford, CT and lived in Connecticut until 1953 working for publications such as Cosmopolitan, Everybody's, McCall's, and Hearst's International. He illustrated several children's books written by Mabel Harmer in the 1950s and taught at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL from 1936-43 and 1948-69. Condition:
Narrow line of exfoliation to left edge, likely abrasions from an earlier frame. Tiny flake lower left near signature. Otherwise painting in good condition. Frame is relatively new and in excellent condition.

WILLIAM LONEY LION PAINTINGA double-sided oil on board painting by William Glenworth Loney (1877-1956) having a large folky standing lion on one side and a winter lake scene on the other. The lion with his wild mane fills the frame while a rose bush and daisies dominate the foreground; the winter scene shows a tree lined snowy shore and a stag being chased by a wolf over the ice. Ex Leask collection. In its original simple pine frame this painting was featured in an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario (printed label: "William Loney, Picton, No 7"). Loney was a blacksmith in Prince Edward County, Ontario, who also carved and painted in his spare time. 1940-50. H: 14"; W: 19.25". Field Collection.

LONEY (1877-1956)A carving by William Glenworth Loney (1877-1956) of a sitting lion with a deeply carved mane and a long tail wrapped around his hindquarters, in original varnished surface with black eyes, nose and tip of tail. The lion is mounted on its original base with a carved "branch" frame. Great patina and condition. Loney was a blacksmith in Prince Edward County, Ontario, who also carved and painted in his spare time; today his works are highly treasured by folk art collectors. 2nd quarter 20th century. H: 5" L: 6.5" W/L: 3.5".
