Abbott Fuller Graves (American
Abbott Fuller Graves (American 1859-1936) "Castillo de San Marcos St. Augustine Florida" pastel on paper signed lower right sight 13 3/8 in. x 9 1/2 in. attractively matted and framed. Note: Abbott Fuller Graves and his family began vacationing in Florida as early as 1910. He was an avid traveler painting in many exotic locations such as Paris Bermuda and Cuba. His Florida scenes however are intriguing due to the subject matter. Instead of the still life landscape or genre scenes that Graves customarily painted in his hometown of Kennebunkport Maine he seems to embrace the historicism of the sights of Florida focusing on the people observing the monuments gardens and other places of interest. The result of this choice of subject matter is a more spontaneous technique which captures the figures in the midst of their activities. The scene represented here beautifully depicts three people visiting St. Augustine's fort along the Guana River which opens into the Atlantic Ocean.

E. COBOS "ALCáZAR DE SEGOVIA" OIL
E. COBOS "ALCáZAR DE SEGOVIA" OIL ON CANVASE. Cobos (Spanish, 1928-?) framed oil on canvas painting depicting a fortified castle in Segovia, Spain. Frame is open face and measures approximately 24-1/2" in height by 21" in width with the sight image measuring approximately 21" in height by 17-3/4" in width. E. Cobos (1928-?) was born in Seville, Spain and attended the Academy of Art in Barcelona. The Alcázar of Segovia (literally, "Segovia Fortress") is a castle, located in the old city of Segovia, Spain. Rising out on a rocky crag above the confluence of two rivers near the Guadarrama mountains, it is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape – like the bow of a ship. The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace, a state prison, a Royal Artillery College and a military academy since then. It is currently used as a museum and a military archives building.
