Munoz draws attention to the three dimensionality of his work by altering and manipulating his canvases using carved, burned, and painted pieces of wood, while flipping the sculptural ideal on its head by displaying his work on the wall in the same fashion as a painting. 19TH C. ITALIAN PARIAN PORCELAIN
19TH C. ITALIAN PARIAN PORCELAIN BUST OF LUCIA MONDELLA...After Enrico Lapini (Italian, 1846-1908). Parian bust of Lucia Mondella, ca. 1893 to 1900. An oversized parian porcelain bust of Lucia Mondella after the original carved marble bust by Italian sculptor Enrico Lapini, titled on the front edge of the base and inscribed "Enrico Lapini/Fell/Firenze/1893" on the verso. Lucia Mondella was a fictional character in Alessandro Manzoni's 1827 novel entitled "I Promessi Sposi" (The Betrothed) and this bust sits upon a rendering of the novel with a partial inscription of the title and author visible on the spine. The emotional quality emanating from this piece is palpable, as Lucia bows her head in a graceful manner, presenting a pensive gaze with her beautiful visage. Size: 13" L x 17.5" W x 30.75" H (33 cm x 44.4 cm x 78.1 cm)
Furthermore, the attention to detail is impressive; the fabric of her dress, which is embellished with a floral pattern, ripples over her curvaceous body; roses, ribbons, and bows modeled in high relief further adorn her garment, and she is bedecked with a double strand of pearls and an elaborate fanned comb crowning her billowing updo.
"The Betrothed" (1827) is a wonderful romantic piece of literature. This brief synopsis captures its essence: "The novel is set in medieval Italy where two lovers (Renzo and Lucia) are prevented from marrying by a cowardly priest. From this flows all sorts of misunderstandings and advances from corrupt regimes as the two lovers are trying to overcome numerous obstacles and go through life trials (including a war, a plague and famine) on their path to a reunion." (Thoughts on Papyrus - Review: The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni)
Popular in the late 18th century at the Sevres factory in France and in Derby, England, Parian busts and figural forms were made from an unglazed white bisque porcelain that resembled marble.

NANO LOPEZ "LUCY" SCULPTURE &
NANO LOPEZ "LUCY" SCULPTURE & SIGNED STUDYNano Lopez (Colombian, b. 1955). "Lucy" bronze AND hand-signed giclee on canvas study for "Lucy" - edition number AP (artist's proof) 18/28, 2010, bronze signature stamped on the tail and stamped with edition number on buttocks, giclee signed on lower right and edition number on lower left. Nano Lopez' bronze entitled "Lucy" presents an endearing feline sitting on a rug, beside her ball of yarn, waiting patiently for her milk bowl to be filled. Look closely, and you will see the message "Got Milk" written in the empty bowl as well as on Lucy's forehead. Amusingly, "Got Milk" as well as "More Milk" appear in the giclee study of Lucy the cat. Nano Lopez calls his animal sculptures Nanimals and has created narratives for many of his Nanimals. In his words, "Lucy has been waiting now for an eternal three minutes and her butler has yet to refill her milk bowl. But she is very patient and the thought of either a nap or a little yarn kicking has come through her mind." Size of bronze: 8.625" L x 12" W x 10.25" H (21.9 cm x 30.5 cm x 26 cm)
This piece was created via the traditional lost wax process that originated in ancient Greece and Rome. Once the bronze was cast, Lopez added countless details via metal chasing, applied patinas to imbue the work with vibrant colors, and finally applied several coats of UV protective lacquer to both enhance and preserve the patina. In Lopez' own words, "The transformation from clay to bronze has always been magical to me." (artist's website)
"Nanimals evoke the magic of seeing the world again for the first time with the eyes of a child. In his artistic process, Nano integrates organic textures and human made objects into his bronzes to create pieces of art that reflect the same attention to the magic, wonder, and creativity that children find in the world around them. Yet, Nanimals are anything but child's play. They describe, as does a fellow Colombian, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a world beyond the borders of ordinary maps, where nature, an unfettered imagination, science, and folklore, monolithic and modern mechanical society exist seamlessly together." (source: artist's website)
