CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE, GERMAN REGIMENT, PA, 1781 Ludowick Weltner (Lt. Col. in command of the German Regiment: a veteran of the French & Indian War in Frederick Co., Md.) handwritten document, signed, dated at Philadelphia, January 13, 1781, certifying that Lt. John Weidman was voted adjutant for the unit on June 20, 1779, and had served in the position until Jan. 1, 1781, when the unit was disbanded; 1 p., 5 x 8 1/4 in. Weidman (1756-1830) joined the German Regiment at its creation in July, 1776. He fought in the Battles of Long Island, White Plains, Trenton, Princeton, Germantown, and Monmouth and was a veteran of the winter camp at Valley Forge. After the war, he was ironmaster of the Union Forge, in Lebanon Co., PA.
