Scattered pencil eraser sized and larger spots of lighter pigmentation or fogging (Unclear if it is dirt or stain) on black stone. Several scattered spots of pin/ pencil tip sized cracking and flaking spots in between tesserae.

Gaspare Diziani (1689-1767) black chalk Study for the flagellation of Christ 10.5 x 7.5in. Estimate ?200-400 Black chalk on a buff coloured paper inscribed in ink 'Cristo Alla Colonna' to the top. Numerous broad brown fox / dirt marks scattered through the work along with a blackish mould mark? in the lower right corner similarly spotted verso. Comes with typed label with attribution to artist and collection referred to as Denis Thomas in modern card mount and bleached oak frame. Provenance: Private London Collection.
