Nine-Piece French Rose Pompadour Porcelain Partial Dessert Service for Eight Persons, fourth quarter 19th century, in the Louis XVI Sevres style, the service comprised of a low circular pastry stand with a portrait of a French noblewoman, dia. 9", and eight dessert plates en suite, dia. 9-1/2", each with a different aristocratic female portrait: the Duchesse du Genlis (two), the Princess de Lamballe, the Duchesse de Chateauroux, Mme. de Pompadour, Mlle. de Longueville, the Duchesse du Barry and Henriette d'Angleterre, all with a trio of equidistant elliptical floral reserves in the wide rose Pompadour border, each signed with a large cobalt overglaze pseudo-Sevres interlaced "L's" cartouche and the portrait identification in overglaze black script (rubbed on the pastry stand).
