MINIATURE WHI...1st item: Flat sided miniature whiskey jug advertising Ames Buggy and Automobiles of Kentucky, two-tone glaze, with blue stenciled letters on front: "TAKE A SMILE WITH AMES OF OWENSBORO", and en verso: "MFR. of PLEASURE VEHICLES / BRED IN OLD KENTUCKY". 2 7/8" H. Note: Ames was a buggy manufacturer established circa 1898 in Owensboro. From 1910 to 1925 the company manufactured automobiles including a beetle-backed "gentleman's roadster" and a five-passenger tourer, and also produced replacement bodies for the Ford Model T. Green River Whiskey was used to fill these jugs, which were given out for promotional purposes by Ames. 2nd item: Southern alkaline glazed stoneware jug, South Carolina or Georgia, ovoid form with dark olive glaze. 6 1/4" H. Third quarter of the 19th century.

Condition:
1st item: Glued breaks to rim and handle area, rim with chips. Hairlines emanating from the rim. 2nd item: Minor glaze exfoliated to the rim, a few scattered shallow chips to the base.
