Oil on canvas signed and inscribed "Roma" at the lower right corner apprx. 18-1/4" x 13" framed in a gilt frame with red rub overall apprx. 21-1/2" x 16-5/8". This version depicts the Virgin Mary in an architectural setting (symbolizing Mary's house) with a potted lily at one side (a symbol of the purity of the Annunciation often shown held in the hand of the Angel Gabriel messenger of Gods will to humans) a basket with an open book on the other side (possibly the Gospel of Luke or a symbol of piety) and holding the yarnwinder at her side. She wears a modest expression as she contemplates the symbols.

Housed in a giltwood frame with stipple engraved details. Sight: 26 1/2" x 20 1/4". Framed: 34 3/4" H x 28" W. Late 16th/ Early 17th century, possibly from the Lombardy region.
