Signed on the lower right corner (unintelligible signature). Karel Van Belle was born in Gent, Belgium in 1884 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts there. Van Belle painted various subjects all with a poetic sense that emphasized the beauty of womanhood and very often in the symbolist style.
