Attributed to William Edward West
Attributed to William Edward West (American/Kentucky, 1788-1857) "Portrait of the Honorable John Minor", oil on panel, unsigned, 30" x 24-1/4". Presented in a period carved giltwood frame. Provenance: The estate of Charlotte Minor Payne, New Orleans, Louisiana. Reference: This portrait is illustrated on page 187, Louisiana Portraits, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. The Honorable John Minor (1768-1832) was a sugar planter originally from Pennsylvania. He resided at "Lynwood Plantation" near Kenner, Louisiana, and was the brother of Don Estevan Minor.

Their brother wears a pale yellow suit and holds out a stem of flowering nasturtiums. 39''h. 39''w. in an old frame 49''h. 28.75''w. Rebacked on new stretcher cleaned and revarnished. Blacklight shows inpainted repair above and to face of child on left inpainting along bottom edge right side of standing child's dress and several smaller spots through the background. Old wood strips with painted name (H. Weeb/Web/Week) placed on top of new stretcher. NOTE: framed dimensions are actually 49''h. 48.75''w.

A Pair of Miniature Portraits, 18th Century Most probably by the same hand, the portraits are of a handsome man in a military garb and a pretty young lady in a frilly Empire style dress, each measuring approx. 3"D, each encased in a metal mount with convex glass and a circular wood frame overall approx. 4-1/2"D. Neither appear to be signed but they are very delicately painted in oil on a thin ivory surface pasted to a paper support.
