INSTRUMENT OF SURRENDERA remarkable
INSTRUMENT OF SURRENDERA remarkable archive including an official copy of the Japanese surrender in the Philippines, signed by General Yamashita the, "Tiger of Malaysia," who was later tried and hanged for war crimes. The surrender document is in an original cloth folder, impressed with "Instrument of Surrender of the Japanese and Japanese-Controlled Armed Forces in the Philippine Islands to the Commanding General of the United States Armed Forces, Western Pacific." The surrender document itself is signed by General Yamashita, Admiral Okochi, and U.S. Major General Edmund H. Leavey. The cover has the gold impressed name of C.F. Dreyer, Colonel, U.S. Army on the bottom right corner. Inside is an archive of interesting documents and photographs, including: a Japanese government in the Philippines 5 Peso note signed in Japanese and Latin Letters by General Yamashita; an Allied propaganda leaflet encouraging the surrender, a number of mounted photos of the surrender including snapshots of Yamashita and U.S. General Wainwright. Dimensions: 17.5 inches by 11 inches, 0.25 inches thick. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $32.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
Condition:
Very good and better. There is minor wear to the cover. The photos have all been handsomely mounted to pages in the folder. The paper is slightly yellowed, and the signature's ink has faded to sepia.
