Reverse side marked with pencil script at top margin, "Jas Allen:.James Allen has a military marker on his grave in the Mountain View Cemetery of Mountain City, TN. 2nd item - CDV of an unidentified older bearded soldier shown seated with an elbow resting on a table, J. Fletch. Woodward Nashville, Tenn. label en verso. This soldier has an oral history belonging to Company D 13th Tennessee Cavalry. Both measure 4" H x 2 1/2" W.

Wooden stock, spur trigger and brass frame. Top of barrel marked "SOUTHERNER" and side of barrel marked with partially legible manufacuturing marks. Barrel length - 2 1/2". Overall length - 5". Note: Some 6,500 were made between 1867 and 1869 marked on their barrels, "MERRIMACK ARMS & MANUFACTURING CO/NEWBURYPORT/MASS/PATENTED APRIL 9, 1867." Another 10,000 were turned out from 1869 to 1873 by Merrimack's successor with their barrels stamped, "BROWN MANUFACTURING CO/NEWBURYPORT, MASS/PAT APR.9, 1869." (Courtesy of the National Rifleman). Dual magnetic closures open to reveal two interior compartments lined with orange suede and brown fabric liner with Prada logo, the first with no interior pockets and second with one zip pocket having an orange suede pull and orange suede tab stamped "Prada/Milano" and second orange suede tag along seam stamped "Prada/Made in Italy." 14 1/2" H (including top handles) x 11 1/2" W x 3 1/2" D. Overall with strap: 32" H. Both items early 21st century.
