A Mechanical Singing Bird Automaton by Karl Griesbaum Workshop Germany ca. 20th Century The brass birdcage contains a miniature bird with red and black feathers perching on a stand which is decorated with small leaves and berries. Cage is mounted to a gilt base with scroll repousse border and small feet underneath. Base marked with maker's stamped mark "K G with a bird over three paramount picks" "Germany" and "KEN-D" in diamond shape on the bottom. Measures approx. 11-1/4"T x 6-1/2"D at the widest point. Integral key. Ring at the top to hang. Working order not tested or guaranteed.

19TH C SINGING BIRD BOXA late 19th century Enamel and Silver Singing Bird Box Automaton, probably Austrian. Similar to examples by Karl Griesbaum, hand painted 18th century style pastoral scenes, engine-turned and guilloche panels, bird-form lever slides to open the oval hinged lid revealing a feathered bird. Stamped "935" only underneath. In a fitted presentation case, with key. A very small spot of white enamel missing at one side. The key fits the wind, and turns; bird pops up and moves slightly. Lid requires some manipulation. Bird does not tweet. 4" wide. ESTIMATE $4,000-6,000
