FRENCH OAK BUFFET A HORLOGE, 19TH C.A mid-19th century French oak buffet with tall case clock. Three drawers above three cabinet doors, the center drawer and cabinet divided into sections to allow room for the pendulum. Mortise and tenon construction. The buffet alone measures 44" x 78" x 19". The height is 104" including the clock, which may be removed for the purpose of moving.
Condition
The buffet is in good antique condition, with expected bowing to the top surface, and marks/splits typical of the age. The clock is untested and presumed in need of some restoration for use. The clock's wooden face has bowed, and its paint shows wear. The side of the top molding of the hood of the clock has a split with no losses.

Composed of an overall wooden foundation with a tapering base, designed with impressed centers, supporting the pull drawer. Centering the pull drawer along the top is the tapering and rotund base to the octogonal form clock face. Clock face is embellished with Roman Numeral dials and encompassed by waved detailing. Marked:"Made in Germany" along the face. Marked:"F. Mauthe Germany" along the back of the movement. CIRCA: Mid 20th Ct. A 19th century French Boulle style shelf clock made by F. Marti. Original brass movement pendulum convex glass face and bell strike with an enameled Arabic numeral dial and gilded openwork hands. Gilt bronze mounts over a tortoise shell veneer with urn style finials decorating the top all upon four feet. Each side features a glass covered window for viewing. Movement is stamped F. Marti Medaille de Bronze'' on verso. Includes key. Condition: clock winds may need additional work for prolonged run time minor tarnishing to gilt mounts minor bends to mounts some cracks to tortoise veneer very minor wear to enameled face some bending to feet see images. CIRCA 1850 FRENCH MANTLE "MOTTU A
CIRCA 1850 FRENCH MANTLE "MOTTU A PARIS" CLOCK 4" thick x 11 ½" wide x 15 ½" tall A white enamel dial with Roman numerals for all chapters, with all minute hash marks on a continuous circle at the dials edge. Trefoil blued steel hands. An 80 mm jaypy type silk suspension movement is utilized. The gilt bronze case features a young boy with sickle and a sheaf of wheat. The lower portion of the case is reticulated and inset with panels of sapphire glass. Movement and dial marked "Mottu A Paris".
