[Provenance: Jared B. Flagg enjoyed a successful career in Hartford supported by prominent citizens throughout the area. Among them was John McClellan (1767-1858) of Woodstock CT who served as a Major of the militia during the Revolution. McClellan was also a member of the Connecticut legislature for twenty years. This portrait descended in the Flagg family until it was given to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in 1899. Deaccessioned from the Wadsworth Atheneum (gift of the Artist's family 1899) sold to benefit acquisition funds.]

A Wartime Steel Engraving of McClellan seated in camp, writing orders, his aide in the background holding the reins of his horse. Along with an undated ALS letter from Meade to Sedgwick that reads "I can give him a note from Meade, but if you or Sykes want another good Staff Officer, I am sure this gentleman will prove a very tolerable one. I am most obliged to you for your kindness to Arthur, take care of the boy and make a good soldier out of him. My love to him & all my friends, not forgetting Sykes, Hust & McMahon. Ever your attached friend, Gen McClellan; Maj Gen Sedgwick, Cmdg 6th Inf. " Housed in silver molded stick frame, two-window slate grey mat, under glass, OS: 14 3/4" x 18 1/2", letter: 7 1/2" x 11 1/4"; print: 7" x 5 1/4", light edge toning.

With the various Civil War battles in which McClellan participated stamped along the shield's border. Pin measures 1.25 x 1.25 in. Plus a small pendant housing a circular albumen photograph of John A. Logan the Vice-Presidential Candidate with James G. Blaine in the election of 1884. Photograph .625 in. dia. pendant .875 in. dia. Condition: Loss to tintype's surface at McClellan's mouth.

U.S. Civil War Confederate Enlisted Man's ''McClellan'' Saddle Based upon the unusual shape of the wood tree this appeared to be made by one of the smaller Confederate saddleries and not a Federally made piece. Wood stirrup on right side void of stirrup on the left side. Condition: Fair. This saddle has potential for restoration. As is the condition of the saddle is dry and brittle and segments the saddle are dissipating. Leather skirts are in good condition.

[Civil War - CDV] Civil War CDVs of Confederate & Union Generals Lot of 10 CDVs including five cropped albumen portraits placed on oval border cartes of Generals McClellan John Pope Henry Halleck Benjamin Butler and Colonel Edward Dickinson Baker and five standard size albumen vignette cartes of Generals Winfield Scott Stonewall Jackson Philip Kearny Nathaniel P. Banks and Joseph Hooker. All by anonymous publishers except for Scott's and Jackson's which bear the backmark of Hall of New York. Condition: All with light general soiling and wear. General Banks with several flyspeck stains on his uniform.

(CIVIL WAR) BRAGG EDWARD S. attrib. A group of two autographed letters to his wife. In the letters Bragg discusses his military activities and refers to Gen. McClellan Antietam and ''Old Abe.'' Signed ''E'' dated November 30 1852 (sc. 1862) and Sunday April 6 1863 4pp. each. Folded in thirds; five line horizontal strip cut from letter dated ''1852.'' Edward Stuyvesant Bragg (1827-1912) of Fond du Lac Wisconsin advanced in rank from captain of the 6th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in 1861 to Brigadier General in 1864 and was engaged in the battles of Gainesville South Mountain Antietam (where he was severely wounded) Fredericksburg Chancellorsville the Wilderness Spotsylvania Laurel Hill North Anna and Cold Harbor as well as commanding the Iron Brigade in their assault on Petersburg. In addition to his field work he was involved in politics and a delegate to the Charleston Democratic Convention of 1860 was elected as state senator in 1867 and served four terms in Congress (1877-83 and 1885-1887).
