Ed (William Edward) McGowin (Mississippi/Washington D.C. b. 1938) "Study for the Jacksonian" mixed media on masonite pencil-signed lower right signed dated "1964" and inscribed en verso 38 in. x 23 in. in a period frame. Note: Born in Mississippi Ed McGowin studied art at the University of Southern Mississippi and University of Alabama. Upon graduating in 1964 McGowin accepted a position in the Sculpture Department at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. As an emerging artist McGowin exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art's prestigious "Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Painting and Sculpture" in 1966 and 1968 as well as at the Jewish Museum in New York City.
