Bamana/Dogon Peoples Anthropomorphic Doorlock, Mali, the upright member a rectangular wood block surmounted by two elongated female torso figures, each with v-shaped mouths, protruding breasts and wearing a red glass bead necklace, the feet of each figure appearing below the lock body which is decorated with linear incising, the horizontal wood member with incised decorated and tubular handle, complete with the original iron lock mechanism, encrustation with signs of wear, h. 17-1/2", w. 18-1/2".

19TH C. PIETRA DURA 'NINE VIEWS OF ROME' MICROMOSAICA fine 19th c. Italian pietra dura micromosaic Grand Tour plaque depicting nine famous Roman sites. Those sites include St. Peter's Square, the Colosseum, the Temple of Vestia, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Temple of Hercules, the?Capitoline Hill, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Arch of Septimius Severus.?Thousands of glass tesserae tiles set in an oval black slate plaque. The plaque measures approximately 4 x 5 inches, in a frame measuring 6 x 7 inches. A popular tourist memento in Georgian and Victorian times, these Roman micromosaics are remnants of the seminal Grand Tour experience, when the young European elite traveled to gain courtly manners and skills.?Glass micromosaics were greatly refined by Vatican craftsmen of the 18th century.
Condition
Appears to be in excellent condition. Not removed from frame.
