EARLY SPEAKING DOG MECHANICAL BANK CA. 7/14/1885& 10/20/1885 patent dates; early cast iron mechanical bank depicts a young girl in red dress and yellow hat, seated next to brown Lab-type dog, coin placed on small paddle on girl's right hand when lever is operated, dog's mouth opens as coin is dropped into slot and tail is moved, the reservoir painted brown, attributed to Shepard Hardware Co., Buffalo, NY, 7 1/2"x 3"x 7 1/4"; Condition: bench top trap door is missing and mechanism is not working properly, possibly a second production series by Stevens Co., original paint is approx. 70-80%

"SPEAKING DOG" MECHANICAL BANK, A GIRL IN A RED DRESS SITS WITH A LARGE BROWN DOG, A COIN IS PLACED IN A PLATE HELD BY THE GIRL THEN THE THUMB PIECE IS PRESSED DOWN RAISING THE GIRLS ARM AND THE COIN IS DEPOSITED IN T..."Speaking Dog" mechanical bank, a girl in a red dress sits with a large brown dog, a coin is placed in a plate held by the girl then the thumb piece is pressed down raising the girls arm and the coin is deposited in the trap door on the bench, the dogs tail wags and the mouth moves indicating speech, movements in working condition, the square coin trap below is keyed (key missing), base is marked "PAT JULY 14 1885", wear consistent with age including paint loss, etc, sold as is.
