MEISSEN PORCELAIN FIGURE OF 'BACCHUS'modelled atop a gilt rocaille circular base with naturalistic foliage, Bacchus dressed in a rich purple and yellow cloth with a wreath of grapevines encompassing his head, standing with his hands full of grapes and a full wine glass, resting on an oversized ewer, marked with factory mark in blue underglaze, incisded model number 2742 in paste, with additional impressed numeral 16 with painters numeral 44 in black overglaze, all underside of base; height: 22 cm (8 5/8 in.)
CONDITION
The figure is in very good condition. Scattered minor chipping to the applied wreath and grape leaves. Inspection under UV light shows repainting and restoration to the leafy wreath around Bacchus head.

Underside with blue underglaze crossed swords mark together with 126 (impressed) and 630X (incised). 12" H x 10" W x 5 1/2" D. 19th century.
Condition:
Overall very good condition. A couple of very minor break repairs to leaf tips.

Provenance: Estate of Ronald Sperling Literature: The sculptor and porcelain designer Dominik Auliczek (1734 - 1804) was born in Bohemia and employed for many years at Nymphenburg. Today his late Baroque style garden sculptures of gods and goddesses can be seen in the gardens of Nymphenburg palace.
