A VERY INTERESTING RELIC NECKLACE WITH TRADE PIECESThe remarkable 56-inch long necklace apparently assembled third quarter of the 19th century is comprised of various relics and trade objects strung on and suspended from a double rope twist plant material other than jute or hemp. The objects include Dutch or African clear glass trade beads, clambroth trade beads, turquoise blue glass African trade beads, African copper tube-form trade beads, early 19th century JE RENAIS DE Mes Cendres French Haitian military buttons, an uncut brass key, corroded brass ball-shape baubles or buttons, brass thimbles drilled and fitted with a suspended brass bead inside to create a tinkler bell, Chinese brass or bronze coins, a circa 1870 Scovill-type brass American artillery button and brass rings.Necklace length measures 56.5, key pendant is 2.75 x 1 inches.The condition is as shown noting that three pieces have come loose since photography and the cords are extremely fragile.Provenance: The 40 year collection of Father Tom Wiederholt, Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was a close personal friend of scholar and curator Ralph 'Ted' Coe who advised Tom on most of his acquisitions.
