1825 mill and verse sampler, mill
1825 mill and verse sampler, mill with pond and ducks surrounded by trees under two four-line verses titled "Religion" and "Wisdom", below mill "Ann Wayne 1825", rose and vine border, silk on linen, 17-1/2 x 21 in. (sight); later wood frame. Extensive folding, grime at edges, appears to have a paper against card backing. According to family history, descended in Wayne family; Ann Wayne was a relative of the Revolutionary War hero Captain Anthony Wayne after whom Waynesville, North Carolina, is named. Private Collection, Arden, North Carolina.
