MINTON CLASSICAL PARIAN NUDE CENTERPIECE COMPOTEMinton white Parian porcelain figural centerpiece compote depicting a classical nude woman with a loosely draped garment on a naturalistic base holding a large centerpiece bowl overhead having a scalloped rim, foliate exterior, and glazed interior; the whole mounted to a round foliate decorated base with classical motifs and three scrolled feet. The underside impressed MINTON with additional impressed hallmarks, including a date mark. 19 1/2" H x 10" dia. English, circa 1862.
Condition:
A white filler added to underside of centerpiece bowl to stabilize assembled piece. A few areas of separation, possibly in the making, to back of knee, back of drapery, and underside of foot.

MINTON PARIAN FIGURE OF 'MIRANDA'MINTON PARIAN FIGURE OF 'MIRANDA', Stoke-on-Trent, England, date cypher for 1862, impressed uppercase mark cypher, incised shape no. 245, after the sculpture by John Bell (1811-1895), modeled seated decollete watching an approaching storm from a rocky ledge, a conch shell and waves at her feet, identified in the mold at the side, 'Bell's Miranda'; This model was first introduced by Minton at the Great Exhibition of 1851, London. Miranda is the daughter of Prospero in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest - h:15.50in.

AN IMPORTANT MINTON ORMOLU MOUNTED MAJOLICA JARDINIERE AND PEDESTAL 1871, composed of a pedestal of triangular storks, overlooking three mermaids, which supports a wide basin mounted with ormolu acanthus leaves in high relief. The basin repeats the aquatic theme, having a rim encircled with a band of three-dimensional lustrous pottery pearls above a running water lily design over scallop shells. The underside is impressed with shape 130 and "Minton" with cypher mark.
