Overall length 49 in.

CONTRACT MODEL 1841 ''MISSISSIPPI'' RIFLE. Robbins and Lawrence Windsor Vermont. .54 caliber 33'' round barrel walnut stock. Lock dated 1848 tang dated 1851 and ''N.J. Steel'' stamped on the left side of the barrel at the breech end. Light corrosion original finish on the stock. The wood has not been cut below the bands. It is just notched in shape of the bands.

WHITNEY U.S. MODEL 1841 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE United StatesC. 1850.54 caliber, NSN, walnut stock with cartouche marks on the left side, brass fittings and patch box, butt plate tang marked "US", lock marked "N.HAVEN/1850" and "E. WHITNEY/US", browned barrel marked "1850" on the tang and "US/GW/VP" and marked "STEEL" on the left side of the breech, inside the patch box is a spare nipple and musket tool, with a brass-tipped ramrod.

MODEL 1841 REMINGTON MISSISSIPPI RIFLE: .54 caliber with traces of Remington Herkimer stamp on lockplate US 1853 stamp clear. 33'' barrel held in by 2 brass barrel bands held by spring. Brass patchbox and buttplate walnut stock. Incorrect but period cleaning rod. Previous owners initials TE crudely carved into stock possible soldier who carried this rifle. The rifles were known to be carried by Confederate soldiers as well. 49 1/4'' overall.CONDITION: One band spring not functioning repair to stock at tang trigger loose but functions typical scratches and dings for this wartime example.

Condition: Barrel cylinder and frame are grey with brown spots scttered throughout the metal. Triggerguard has some blue mixing with brown patina. Two chips out of the right grip one at the top and one at the bottom. Grips with nice mellowed yellow look.
