N.Y.V. / March 1st 1863; the left side of the sword's 32 in. blade is etched with an American Eagle and scroll bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, there is additional foliate decoration on both sides of the blade; the ricasso has a scroll engraved "Made by Ames MFG Co CHICOPEE, MASS; the pierced guard features "US" amid foliage; the grip wrapped in ray skin bound with brass wire.

MODEL 1850 STAFF AND FIELD OFFICERS SWORD SCABBARD AND SASH: Ornate grip with engraved pommel US shield on cap and US in guard. Original shark / rayskin grip and wire. Import 32'' blade most likely German with nice clear engravings of US eagle military motifs and foliate scroll. Metal scabbard with extra fancy engraved mounts. Sword has original officers sash still wrapped around grip faded to a nice rose color. We have not removed the sash from the grip. 38 3/4'' long overall.CONDITION: Minor areas of isolated peppering on blade sash has tears and rips but complete and intact.

The blade has been soldered to the guard, and the handle has been soldered near the pommel; some discoloration noted; the tip of the blade is slightly bent. The metal scabbard with rust. Blade 31 3/4" long, 37 3/4" long overall in the scabbard. ESTIMATE $300-500

Leather and brass wire wrapped handle. Chased brass pommel chased brass knuckle bow and cupped guard. Metal scabbard with brass fittings. Marked on the drag ''6'' and SWP. Condition: Sword is excellent overall. Scabbard has some speckling of patina mixed with the original nickel finish.

The leather scabbard is cracked, flaking, and split along the seam in two places; lacking a total of four brass pins for the mounts; minor dents to the brass; and unmarked. Blade 30 1/4" long, 37 3/8" long overall in the scabbard. ESTIMATE $400-600
