US Civil War Non-Regulation Officer's Sword with Scabbard 33'' near mint blade iron mounted sword with shagreen handle that is retaining its wires. An attractive yet functional officer's sword features a prominent cutout eagle and US in 4-branch iron guard. The iron guard back strap and pommel are still mostly bright with ca 20% turning age brown. The shark skin grip is tight and intact with 100% triple-wrap wire. The 33'' single-edged blade is bright and virtually like new with no rust no pitting no nicks and no age darkening. Etched in blade is typical scrollwork U.S. American eagle and E. Pluribus Unum. On spine of blade Iron Proof. The iron scabbard is solid with no dents or dings and ca 50% bright 50% age brown. A fine example of a popular import sword. [See Peterson 1954: 75]. Condition: Very good.

US Civil War Model 1852 Naval Officer's Sword Civil War regulations mandated a straight edge to the new Model 1852 Naval Officer's sword. This example marked with beehive. Sword has a gilt hilt with dolphin head quillon with open-work oak leaves and acorns with U.S.N. in center. Knuckle bow also has figural dolphin with spread-winged eagle on pommel with star surround wire-wrapped ray skin grip. The 29'' steel blade is acid etched with naval motifs with 3/4-fuller and false edge. Lacks scabbard; total length 34.75''. Condition: Very good.

S." evident on one side, pierced foliate guard and wire wrapped leather handle. Together with a brown leather scabbard, unmarked. Weak blade etching with no apparent manufacturer's markings; spots of discoloration; the wood handle is cracked in two places and the leather shows wear. The leather scabbard is cracked, flaking, and split along the seam in two places; lacking a total of four brass pins for the mounts; minor dents to the brass; and unmarked. Blade 30 1/4" long, 37 3/8" long overall in the scabbard. ESTIMATE $400-600

M1852 US NAVY OFFICER'S SWORD W/ SCABBARD A model of 1852 U.S. Naval Officer's sword, possibly a later production. The sword features a slightly curved 28 1/2" blade with naval engravings. The handle is wood with a fish skin and brass wire wrap and bronze handguard and pommel. The scabbard is leather with bronze fittings. The sword is in overall fine condition with rust present at the base and tip of the blade and a dark patina to the handguard. The bronze fittings to the scabbard are loose and the leather itself is rather dried out and cracking.

Import 32'' blade most likely German with nice clear engravings of US eagle military motifs and foliate scroll. Metal scabbard with extra fancy engraved mounts. Sword has original officers sash still wrapped around grip faded to a nice rose color. We have not removed the sash from the grip. 38 3/4'' long overall.CONDITION: Minor areas of isolated peppering on blade sash has tears and rips but complete and intact.
