Accompanying newsclipping (dated May 9 1864) suggests that the man purchased the horse at an auction of ''condemned'' US Cavalry horses. Paper case.

The receiver has the name ''Reco'' engraved on the right side and a game scene on the left side featuring a bear and a deer. The engraving is very amateurish and there is no finish on the receiver. The barrel is made from a Rock Island Arsenal military model 1903 barrel dated 9-18. This gun should be checked by a competent gunsmith before attempting to shoot it. the wood is sanded and refinished with poor repairs.
