A 20th century figural marble group after the original by noted Florentine sculptor Pasquale Romanelli (Italian, 1812-1887), depicting the famed balcony scene from William Shakespeare's (English, 1564-1616) tragic play "Romeo and Juliet", wherein the smitten Romeo climbs to Juliet's balcony for an elicit kiss at her father's estate, the figure's costumes with elaborate and intricate detail including Juliet's fine lace collar and the brocade of Romeo's vest. Overall approximately 48" x 20" x 17"

(20.6cm) (depth) 5 7/8 (14.9cm) (overall height) provenance: From the Collection of Mrs. Muriel Wolgin, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ,500-4,000 Generally good condition but with visible surface patina inconsistencies. Where there are inconsistencies there are visible brown marks/areas, to parts of figure and to parts of base. Additionally, there are some minor surface nicks, scratches, imperfections. Overall there is not evidence of any loss or restoration. Most of the brown areas appear as smudges.

SAMUEL PEPYS & EDWARD MONTAGU, AL,1660 Samuel Pepys (1633-1707, historical writer and diarist) letter written on dictation by Edward Montagu (1625-1672, 1st Earl of Sandwich, in Feb., 1660, appointed General at Sea, and in March tasked with returning Charles II to England from exile in Holland) and signed by Montagu aboard the ship "Swiftsure," to the Commissioners of the Royal Navy, March 29 1660. Montagu requests a quick decision on charges against Captain Sparling of the ship "Assistance." 1 p., folio, 12 x 8 1/2 in., folded, wax seal on verso. An interesting memento of the Restoration, written about a month after Pepys commenced his famous diary.
