A Large Cloisonne Vase With Extreme Moriage With Mark of Kawode Shibataro Meiji Period Circa 1905 a hexagonal vase in silver mounts finely decorated overall with a blossoming prunus tree in moriage technique in polychrome enamels over a vivid blue background. Signed in the enameled base with wire. Measures 15-3/4"T (38.1cm tall). Kawade Shibataro (1856-1921) of the Ando cloisonné company and Hattori Tadasaburo are both credited with the introduction of moriage or high-relief enameling.See page 302 plate number 308 "The Spendors of Meiji" the Khalili Collection to see an exact match.
