FEDERAL BANJO CLOCKFederal mahogany Patent Timepiece or Banjo Clock, painted iron dial with Roman numerals, gesso rope molded frame, reverse painted glass at throat decorated with gilt flowers and flanked by curved brass side ornaments with three brass diamonds, lower case with reverse painted glass door decorated with Classical scene of a goddess, possibly Aphrodite, and cherub or putti, encircled in a wreath, atop a gilded pedestal. Brass eight-day timepiece movement. Length of case not including bracket or finial 28 1/2"L. Possibly Aaron or Simon Willard, Roxbury, Massachusetts, circa 1810. Condition:
Regilded, with area of missing gilding to back of one ball drop on lower section. Eagle and ball finial may not be original; hole to back of ball finial. 1/4" repainted flake to dial. Shrinkage to sides of case with one area of repaired molding loss to side at back edge, 1" area of wood repair to side at hinge.
