SHAKER CANDLE BOX. Union Village Ohio ca.1840 poplar. Dovetailed box with scroll-cut skirt and retaining much of its original finish with a dry surface. Repair. 7''h. 12 1/2''w. 6''d. This box descended in the Melampy family who were the last farm managers for the Shakers at Union Village. The box was a gift to them from the Shakers. According to tradition Dr. Melampy used it as his shoeshine box. Repair to backsplash cotter hinges reset or replaced.
