JOHN APPLETON BROWN NEW ENGLAND LANDSCAPE PAINTING Massachusetts,1844-1902 Impressionist depiction of a brown cow drinking from a pond surrounded by lush green trees. Brown travelled to France to study old master paintings where Emile Lambinet influenced his paintings, but the Barbizon painters Corot an Daubigney would continue to have a lasting effect on his works. In 1875, Brown became friends with J. Foxcroft Cole and William Morris Hunt, two Barbizon painters, after returning to the United States.
