Shoulders decorated in gilt with three Shimazu family crests with clouds on a brocade background. Marked in iron red cartouche with gilt characters with Shimazu family crest on the underside. Measures apprx. 9"T x 4-1/2" x 4".

The kiku mon of the Emperor Meigi appears on either side of the neck formed in gold wire and white enamel. With original purple silk bags and double paulownia chest. Signed in silver wire in the enameled base. Presented to the Chief Auditor Saito of the Imperial Household on the occasion of his retirement. From a private lifetime collection. Vases measure 13-1/2"T (33.02cm). For a similar pair see page 353 plate number 367 "The Splendors of Meiji" Khalili Collection.
