A Fine Japanese Lacquer Suzuribako Late Edo Period A Japanese lacquer writing box(suzuribako) depicting a Mongolian hunter with original storage box(tomobako) The Mongolian hunter is depicted in togadashi and hiramakie techniques against a polished roiro background. The interior of the box depicts a Mongolian landscape with setting sun and native bovine done in low relief takemakie and hiramakie. The backgrounds are a dense gold nashiji. Original ink stone and water dropper with calligraphy tray all lifting out for paper storage beneath. With original pillow silk wraps and tomobako. Apprx. 1-3/4"T x 8-3/4"W x 9-1/2"T.

A Japanese Lacquerware Writing Box Set (Suzuribako) The larger of the two boxes measuring approx. 3-7/8" x 3" x 1-1/2", fitted in the interior with a tray. The exterior finely decorated in gilt and foil with red accents; cherry blossom branches surrounding a circular reserve with a panoramic landscape with a flock of cranes, ad the interior of the lid has a scene with a turtle. The smaller box is similarly decorated and contains objects for inking, measuring approx. 2" x 1-5/8" x 1/2"H.
