NAVAL SILK AND GILT METAL EMBROIDERY WITH RAISED WORK OF THE COAT OF ARMS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM the English Lion and the Unicorn of Northern Ireland and Scotland (chained because in medieval times a unicorn was thought to be a dangerous beast) surmounted by the English crown below is the motto of the British Empire ''Dieu et mon droit ''(God and my right) and the motto of the Order of the Garter ''Honi soit qui mal y pense'' (Evil to him who evil thinks) with thistles (Scotland) and roses (England) naval ship flanked by Red Ensign (merchant marines) White Ensign (Royal Navy) Union Jack among other flags each flag mounted on a pole with an embroidered gilt tassel the animals with glass eyes all appliqued to brown silk framed h: 22 1/2 x w: 29 3/4 in. -
