Another Papua New Guinea Je Stone
Another Papua New Guinea Je Stone Dani Tribe 19th Century Used by the Dani tribe the je stones were made of slate and were usually flat and elongated. The stones were imported from the Jalemo people who live northeast of the Balim Valley and are grey green and black in color. Many are decorated with fur tufts braided strands of bark fiber yellow colored braided orchid fiber feathers or cloth around the middle of the stone. Used in ceremonial payments for funerals brides and commercial activities. This stone has no such additional decoration and measures 13-1/2"L.

A handsome projectile point, carefully hand-knapped from stone of a rosy brown hue. Displaying a collateral flaking pattern, the ancient weapon presents a lanceolate body with a flat base, a recurvate blade, a slightly serrated edge, and a sharp tip.
