GEORGE INNESS LUMINOUS LANDSCAPE WC PAINTING New York, Massachusetts, Scotland1825-1894En plein air depiction of tall trees and distant mountains illuminated by bright sunlight. Inness briefly studied in Brooklyn with French artist R?gis Fran?ois Gignoux (1816-1882) in New York before travelling to Europe. In 1868, Inness was elected to the National Academy of Design in New York, and by 1891 he was in Northern California with fellow artist William Keith. Both Inness and Keith shared interest and were influenced by the philosophy of Swedenborg during this time. Inness is most closely associated with the Hudson River School and Barbizon School, but used elements of tonalism and luminism in his works.
