US Civil War Model 1852 Naval
US Civil War Model 1852 Naval Officer's Sword Civil War regulations mandated a straight edge to the new Model 1852 Naval Officer's sword. This example marked with beehive. Sword has a gilt hilt with dolphin head quillon with open-work oak leaves and acorns with U.S.N. in center. Knuckle bow also has figural dolphin with spread-winged eagle on pommel with star surround wire-wrapped ray skin grip. The 29'' steel blade is acid etched with naval motifs with 3/4-fuller and false edge. Lacks scabbard; total length 34.75''. Condition: Very good.

M1852 US NAVY OFFICER'S SWORD W/
M1852 US NAVY OFFICER'S SWORD W/ SCABBARD A model of 1852 U.S. Naval Officer's sword, possibly a later production. The sword features a slightly curved 28 1/2" blade with naval engravings. The handle is wood with a fish skin and brass wire wrap and bronze handguard and pommel. The scabbard is leather with bronze fittings. The sword is in overall fine condition with rust present at the base and tip of the blade and a dark patina to the handguard. The bronze fittings to the scabbard are loose and the leather itself is rather dried out and cracking.

Arnold; attached documents indicate he was mustered into service 1861, commissioned as an officer in 1868, mustered out in 1877.

WWII German Naval Officer's
WWII German Naval Officer's Swordunmarked highly polished steel blade with wire-bound celluloid grip. The lion's head pommel D-guard and hinged cross guard are heavily gilded a high relief fouled anchor and the number N784 are on the right and left cross guards respectively. The sword retains its original gold and silver bullion portepee terminating in an acorn motif. The leather scabbard has gilt brass mountings and is affixed with a twisted black leather cord and brass sword hanger. Included is the sword's original wool-lined linen storage bag.This sword was ''liberated'' from a Nazi's Berchtesgaden vacation home in May 1945 by a Bronze Star recipient serving with the 171st Engineer Combat Battalion. Allegedly the trophy was hanging by a portrait of Admiral Erich Raeder. This ensemble is quite rare today in that all of its original elements are present.LOA 35.5 on.; Blade 29.25 in.Light localized rusting to the blade; gilt remains bright and full; some crazing to the leather; minimal mothing to the wool. Overall very high grade.Private Collection Knoxville Tennessee
