TIFFANY & CO GILT COMMEMORATIVE GOBLETTiffany & Co. gilt metal thistle commemorative goblet having thistle leaves from base up the stem. Impressed around foot, "The Engineers Club December 9th 1907". Commissioned as the toasting goblet for a special dinner for Andrew Carnegie for the December 1907 opening of the new clubhouse built by the Engineers Club, 32 West 40th Street, New York. The thistle is in homage to Carnegie's Scottish ancestry. Marked Tiffany & Co. on the base of lower rim and underside. Bears W.A. Smith Auctioneers label on underside. Dimensions: 7.5"h. Provenance: The Estate of William B. Ruger, Jr. Literature: Art & Enterprise, Donald C. Pierce, pp. 278-279.
