Drexel Francis Martin [American/Pennsylvania 1792-1863] oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman the painting is signed under the relined canvas and is documented in an addition to the back of the painting. Purchased from the Estate of David Scull Bispham of Philadelphia in 1928. Drexel was a prominent 19th-century portrait painter whose painting career began in Europe continued in Philadelphia and in South America for an extended period of time.
