Note: Our consignor indicates this could possibly be Edgar Allen Poe (sans moustache) and his longtime friend George Lippard, perhaps taken in Philadelphia around 1842.

Slightly dusty, production markings on image, Judge production label at bottom of bd. * Policeman releasing a criminal, observed by astonished children. 7 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches (184 x 285 mm), on bd. Slightly dusty, minor chipping, pencil & ink production markings. Both for Judge Magazine, ca. 1886-1912. Known as "Zim," Eugene Zimmerman (1862-1935), one of the leading cartoonists of his era, worked for Puck & Judge magazines from 1883-1912, was founder & first president of The American Association of Cartoonists.

Condition
Loss of one of the figure's feet. An inactive wood split along the arm of floating hand. Scuffs and scratches.
