Two Japanese Carvings: an Okimono and a Netsukethe okimono is a modeling of jointed acrobats suspended from bars which tumble over each other when the rod is rotated bone with two ivory bars (3.5 x 4.75 in.); the well-carved ivory netsuke is of a macabre theme depicting a skeleton atop a skull (1.75 in.) with unusual mother-of-pearl signature disk affixed to the bottom.

JAPANESE OKIMONO WHALE TOOTH
JAPANESE OKIMONO WHALE TOOTH CARVING STATUEDESCRIPTION: An elegantly carved whale tooth carving statue, a superb specimen of late Edo era depicting two wise men on a mountain holding a roll and vase and surrounded by a dragon. Signed on the base this large whale tooth carving affords us a glimpse of the artist admirable original talent. The okimono is realized in naturalism with the figures formed in round, which effectively creating an integrated harmony that can be admired from any angle. The whale tooth ivory is beautifully aged with a patina varying from a rich cream to light-gold. It appears to be mostly solid because of the one hundred and thirty three grams net weight.
