EARLY RESERVATION APACHE CUTOUT
EARLY RESERVATION APACHE CUTOUT PIPE TOMAHAWK HEADThe lot features an early Indian Reservation period forged pipe tomahawk head with cutouts from the Apache Indians. The tomahawk head has clear blacksmith hand forged iron with a tall bowl and rear flaring blade. The blade shows two cutouts, a crescent moon and five-point star, both nice later additions. The tomahawk head is paired with a contemporary hardwood handle with late brass covered brass tacks. The end shows a poured pewter cap with engraving. A nice older head with some later Reservation additions. The head is definitely more crudely made, likely a less skilled blacksmith, possibly an Indian Blacksmith with an older age. From the Jim Bastian collection. Overall the tomahawk measures 17”L with the head being 9 1/8”L by 2.5”L across the bottom of the blade. Total weight of 1 lbs 8 oz.
